  2. 1. Heracles was borne to "Zeus and a mortal woman". (26) No one has a deity and a mortal as there parents.
    2. The first feat Heracles completed was killing the serpants Hera sent to kill him. He "extended his arm, grabbed a snake in each hand and strangled both snakes" (27) This was when Heracles was only 8 months old.
    3. Heracles gets away with killing his children. This is very vague, for it was not really his fault, since it was Hera who made him do so. It teaches us not always the evil (in this case Hera) are punished, and sometimes the good instead are punished.
    4. He "killed all the wild beasts in the country, enabling farmers to plant olive orchards and vineyards"(30) which was not to complete his whims.
    5. It may not be noble, and may have been dishonourable, but when you have a task at hand that has no straightforward way, being clever is a neccesary skill. Therefore it could be called respectable if it towards a good cause.
    6. It has a negative light to it. It shows them as overlly selfish, and even cold hearted. While explaining Hera's reasoning it says that she "hated is children by other women"(26)
    7. The three locales are Libya, Delphi and Mount Olympus.

  3. 1. Zeus's parentage is unique because he promised Hera that "Heracles would have to perform for king Eurystheus of Tiryns" (26) to make himself mortal. He is also born between Zeus and a "mortal woman"(26).

    2. His first feat he accomplished was when he was 8 months old. Hera was "wishing to kill him, she sent two huge snakes into his nursery" (26) because of her jealousy. As they approached to his bed, "Heracles gleefully extended his arms, grabbed a snake in each hand, and strangled both serpents" (27).

    3. Zeus made Heracles finish all the labors but, he gave him extra work. I don't think Zeus gave him extra work for punishment. I think he gave him for his own sake to teach him that to become immortal, he needs to work hard. At last, he "kept his promise"(31) and made him immortal.

    4. A feat that he accomplished that actually helped the mortals was when he killed dangerous animals that human feared. He "killed all the wild beasts in the country, enabling famers plant olive orchards and vineyards"(30). Not just following the orders of King Eurystheus, he also helped the mortals.

    5. Tricking Atlas was a very disrespectful thing to do. But it is alto respectable too. Since Atlas tricked Heracles about holding the sky, Heracles tricked Atlas too. He tricked Atlas by asking him to hold the sky again and stole the golden apple. They tricked each other so, I think it's equal but still, steeling something and tricking someone is not a good thing to do.

    6. This myth depict women in a negative cruel way in a negative light. As Hera sent "two huge snakes into his nursery" (26), she did something evil to Heracles by trying to kill him. She was also jealous because he was a son of Zeus and a "mortal woman"(26).

    7. Delphi, Arcadia, Crete

  4. 1. Heracles parentage is unique because unlike the other gods, "Heracles was the won of Zeus and a mortal woman" (26).

2.The first feat he accomplished was killing two snakes. At the age of 8 months, "wishing to kill him"(26), Hera sent two huge snakes. Heracles reached his arms for the snake and killed both of the serpents.

    3. Heracles gets away for killing "his children" (27). Eurystheus had asked Heracles to become his servant but had refused. Hera then made Heracles insane and made him shoot his own children, thinking they were enemies. He was forgiven but had to perform ten labors Eurystheus would command. It teaches us that the world is not fair. The world is full of good and bad. We should definitely forgive others because that can cause bigger problems.

    4. The feat that he accomplished that helped the mortals was that he "killed all the wild beasts... enabling farmers..." (30).

    5. It was not good for Heracles to trick Atlas but as they say in books, an eye for an eye. If he tricked Heracles, then Heracles can trick him.

    6. This myth describes women in a negative light. It shows how cruel they can be and how selfish and jealous they can be. "Hera...Wishing to kill him...sent two huge snakes..." (26).

    7. Delphi, Arcadia, Crete, which are all in modern Greece.
